Description

The MERCATOR MULTI pocket knife from Otter-Messer combines versatile functionality, compact dimensions and high-quality craftsmanship. It is a practical companion for outdoor activities and everyday use.

The four-part Mercator pocket knife was originally produced more than 60 years ago by Kaufmann und Söhne in Solingen. Recreated from the original aged drawings, the knife includes the same four tools as the historic model: a lockable blade, an awl for loosening knots and piercing leather or fabric, a can opener and a corkscrew. More than 120 individual processes are required to manufacture each knife.

Every component is crafted by hand. The awl and can opener are forged using belt-driven drop hammers before being rough-ground and finely finished. A central core inside the corkscrew helix helps prevent the cork from crumbling. The blade is made from C75 carbon steel, which retains its edge well, and receives a final fine dry grind. The burnished steel handle is not rustproof but gives the knife its distinctive, high-quality appearance.
